Where is the Farnham recycling centre?

The Farnham community recycling centre is run by Surrey County Council, not Waverley. Surrey's Farnham page gives the address as Bourne Mill, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 9PS and the telephone number as 01252 726316. The whole network is listed on the council's community recycling centres page.

What are the opening hours?

As published by Surrey County Council:

  • Monday to Wednesday: 8am to 4pm
  • Thursday and Friday: closed
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9am to 4pm

The council adds that the centre can close for up to 30 minutes during the day while full containers are exchanged and waste is compacted. Its Farnham page also lists holiday changes: it closes at 2pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and keeps standard hours on Easter and other bank holidays. Because the site is shut on Thursdays and Fridays, plan around that before loading the car.

Do I need to book?

According to Surrey's visiting your CRC page, you do not need to book a visit to any of Surrey's community recycling centres. The council does ask you to check opening hours before you go.

What proof of residency do I need?

Surrey's resident scheme page says all Surrey residents can use the centres. On your first visit you need to show one of: your driving licence, this year's council tax bill, a recent utility bill, your Surrey bus pass, or any official or government document showing your name and address. After checking, you receive a resident sticker for future visits.

Can I take a van, pickup or trailer?

Not at Farnham. The council says that to use a van, pickup or trailer at a centre you need a van permit, and the Farnham page lists vans, pickups and trailers as not accepted at this site. Business waste and construction or DIY waste are also listed as not accepted at Farnham. Surrey's visiting page notes that not all centres take DIY waste and that charges may apply where they do, so check Surrey's construction and DIY waste information before you start a project rather than turning up with rubble.

Can I walk in?

The resident scheme page says only four centres allow pedestrians: Caterham, Camberley, Warlingham and Woking. Farnham is not one of them, so you will need to arrive by vehicle.

What can I bring?

Surrey's Farnham page says the site takes all the standard centre items plus bottle tops, TetraPak cartons and upholstered seating. Surrey's rules also ask you to remove recyclables from black bags first and to put hazardous materials in the designated containers. Children below Year 7 must stay in the vehicle, older children need adult supervision, and pets must stay in the vehicle. For anything not on the list, the council points you to its Surrey Recycles search tool.

What if I only have a few bulky items?

You may find it easier to book a collection. Waverley's bulky waste service is explained in our bin collection guide.

A note on council changes

Waverley's website says new websites are being developed for East and West Surrey councils ahead of their launch in April 2027. If Surrey County Council's page addresses change, the details above should be re-checked on the council's own site.
