EV Charging in Farnham: Council Car Parks, On-Street Points and Apps
Where Waverley says it has EV chargers in Farnham, who to call if one is not working, and how Surrey handles on-street charging and home cable gullies.
Waverley Borough Council lists two Farnham EV charging locations, Riverside 3 and Brightwells Car Park, with 18 charging bays at Brightwells Yard. Central, South Street and Farnham Leisure Centre car parks have none. Normal parking charges still apply where they do.
Where are the council's EV chargers in Farnham?
Waverley Borough Council's EV charging page lists two Farnham locations: Riverside 3 and Brightwells Car Park. The council says it works with Engie EV Solutions to roll out chargers across the borough. Waverley's Brightwells Yard car park page lists 18 charging bays there. By contrast, the council's pages for Central car park, South Street and Farnham Leisure Centre say there are no EV charge points on site.
You still pay normal parking charges where they apply. Waverley's pages do not state charging prices or payment methods for the chargers, so check at the unit or on the app named on it.
Who do I contact about a faulty charger?
Waverley lists two support contacts. For Genie Point chargers, such as those at Riverside 3, it gives 020 3598 4087 and geniesupport@equans.com. For the other operator it names, Mer, it gives 020 3884 2768 and hello.uk@mer.eco. Use the contact for the operator shown on the charger.
How do I find other chargers?
Both councils recommend Zap Map, which shows chargers across the country. Surrey says its Zap Map listings are regularly updated to show public charge points, including Surrey's on-street points and those run by other operators.
What about on-street charging near my home?
On-street charging is a Surrey County Council project. Its electric vehicles page says that by October 2024 there were over 200 charge point sockets installed on behalf of the council. These include fast AC chargers (7 to 11 kW), lower-powered lamp post chargers (3.5 to 5 kW) and rapid DC chargers in high-demand areas. Residents can request a chargepoint through an interactive map on Commonplace. The council says it considers factors such as off-street parking, vehicle ownership, traffic and existing infrastructure when choosing locations.
I have no driveway. Is there anything else?
Surrey offers cable gully installations, channels that let a charging cable cross the pavement safely. The council lists a subsidised installation fee of £499 and a two-year warranty. It also mentions community apps such as Co Charger for sharing a home charger. Check Surrey's page for current terms.
Will more chargers come to Farnham?
Waverley says on-street chargers are being installed in two phases through Surrey's pilot programme.
A note on council changes
Waverley's website says new websites for East and West Surrey councils are being developed ahead of an April 2027 launch. Charger contact details and pages may change.
