How do I register with a GP in Farnham?

NHS guidance on how to register with a GP surgery says you can register online by entering a postcode in the NHS find-a-GP search, or in person by visiting a surgery with a paper form or by downloading the official registration form. The NHS states that you do not need ID, proof of address or proof of immigration status to register, and that an NHS number is helpful but optional. Most people register near where they live, although some surgeries accept patients from further away. The NHS warns that registering out of area may limit home visits and urgent care from your GP, including out-of-hours care, and some community services, so ask the surgery first.

Which practices are in Farnham?

The NHS find-a-GP service is the official list, and the search results update as practices change, so use it with your postcode (GU9 or GU10). We do not rank practices. These are three that we could confirm from a practice site or its NHS.uk page:

  • Farnham Park Health Group: listed on NHS.uk at Farnham Centre For Health, Hale Road, Farnham, GU9 9QS. When we read the page it said the surgery was accepting new patients.
  • Farnham Dene Medical Practice: NHS.uk lists it at Lodge Hill Road, Lower Bourne, Farnham, GU10 3RB, and also showed it as accepting new patients.
  • Central Surgery: its own website at centralsurgeryfarnham.co.uk gives its address as 1 Union Road, Farnham, GU9 7PT, and offers a "Join the practice" option and online appointment booking.

Whether a practice is taking new patients can change at any time. Check NHS.uk or contact the surgery. If you live in Wrecclesham, Rowledge, Badshot Lea or Hale, the postcode search will show which practices are nearest and which will take you on.

How do I book an appointment?

Each practice sets its own booking system. Central Surgery's site, for example, says it strongly encourages online services where possible. Look at your own practice's website or call reception; NHS.uk's page for the surgery also lists its opening times. The NHS App lets registered patients manage some services, and you must already be registered with a GP surgery to use it.

What if the surgery is closed?

NHS.uk pages for the practices above note that people needing urgent care should contact NHS 111 online or by phone. The NHS's when to use 111 page says it can help if you think you need medical help right now, and call 999 if you have signs of a life-threatening illness. Our urgent care and A&E guide explains where to go.

What about a pharmacist instead?

For some minor conditions a pharmacist may be quicker. See our pharmacies guide.

A note on council and NHS changes

Waverley's site says new websites for East and West Surrey councils are being developed ahead of an April 2027 launch. That is a council change; GP services remain NHS services, so rely on NHS.uk for the current practice list.
