Registering Births, Deaths and Marriages from Farnham

There is no register office in Farnham itself: which Surrey County Council offices serve Farnham residents and how to book.

Surrey County Council runs registration, and its list of register offices has none in Farnham. Offices include Camberley, Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge. You must book an appointment in advance. Register a birth within 42 days and a death within five days of the medical examiner's paperwork. Give notice of marriage at Guildford, Leatherhead or Weybridge.

Who runs registration for Farnham

Births, deaths and marriages in Farnham are registered through Surrey County Council's registration service, not Waverley Borough Council or Farnham Town Council. Surrey's register offices page lists seven offices: Camberley, Epsom, Guildford, Leatherhead, Reigate, Staines and Weybridge. It does not list one in Farnham. It says you must make an advance appointment at one of them to register a birth or a death or to give notice of marriage or civil partnership. GOV.UK's register office finder can also search by postcode, including for neighbouring offices outside Surrey.

Which office?

Surrey's page marks which services each office offers:

  • Camberley, Epsom, Reigate and Staines: birth and death appointments only.
  • Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge: births, deaths and giving notice of marriage or civil partnership.

Surrey's Guildford page gives Artington House, 42 Portsmouth Road, Guildford GU2 4DZ, with a free visitor car park, and says the office will be closing from November 2026. Its Camberley page says Camberley Registration Office is on the first floor of Camberley Library Hub, Knoll Road, Camberley GU15 3SY. Check each page for opening hours and parking before you go.

Registering a birth

Surrey says you must book an appointment to register a birth within 42 days of the child being born, and that a child born in Surrey can be registered at a Surrey register office. From 9 November 2026 it says you must bring original proof of identity to the appointment, and its birth page lists the accepted documents and who can register. GOV.UK says the same 42 days.

Registering a death

Surrey's death page says a death must be registered in the county where it occurred, within five days of the register office receiving the medical examiner's paperwork, and that the medical examiner's office will tell you when you can book. Where the coroner is involved the five day rule does not apply. The page sets out when you can book online and what to bring.

Giving notice of marriage or civil partnership

Surrey's notice page says notice must be given at least 29 days before the ceremony, lasts 12 months, and that if you live in a Surrey borough you can book at any Surrey register office. It lists the original documents to bring. Because Camberley does not take notice, book at Guildford, Leatherhead or Weybridge while those offices are open, and check Surrey's page for changes.
