Farnham Schools: Primary and Secondary Admissions Explained
How school applications work for Farnham families, the closing dates for 2026-27 entry, and where to check each school's own admissions rules.
Surrey County Council runs school applications for Farnham. For September 2027, secondary applications close on 31 October 2026, and primary applications open on 2 November 2026 and close on 15 January 2027. For primary you can list up to four schools in order of preference.
Who handles school places in Farnham?
Surrey County Council runs the application process for schools in Farnham, as the council's school admissions page explains. It offers three routes: primary, infant or junior applications, secondary applications in the standard round, and in-year admissions for applications outside the normal rounds. Children with an EHC plan follow a different process. The same page links to a school map tool to search for schools near you, admission booklets, school transport guidance and the appeals process.
What are the key dates?
As published by Surrey:
- Secondary (starting Year 7 in September 2027): the closing date for on-time applications is 31 October 2026.
- Primary (Reception) and Year 3 at schools with a published Year 3 number: applications open on 2 November 2026 and close on 15 January 2027.
The primary page says the Reception round is for children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, or leaving Year 2 of an infant school in July 2027. If you apply after the deadline, you may be treated as a late applicant, so apply on time. For offer dates, check Surrey's pages.
How many schools can I name?
For primary schools, Surrey's step 3 page says you can list up to four schools in order of preference. Surrey says this information is not shared with schools and does not disadvantage your application, and that naming fewer schools does not increase your chance of being offered one of them. The address you give must be the child's current permanent home address. For secondary, follow the steps on Surrey's secondary apply page, starting with researching and choosing a school.
Do academies set their own rules?
Some schools in Farnham are academies and publish their own admissions policies, which you must read alongside Surrey's process. The schools' own sites show examples. Farnham Heath End School, at Hale Reeds, Farnham, GU9 9BN (01252 733371), has an admissions page with its admissions policy for September 2027 to August 2028, in-year admissions, appeals and open evening information. Weydon School, at Weydon Lane, Farnham, GU9 8UG (01252 725 052), links to its admissions policies from its website. Both are secondary schools; we are not ranking or rating schools. Use Surrey's school map and each school's own website to see its admission arrangements, and check Ofsted and school websites directly for quality information.
What about primary schools?
Farnham and the villages have a range of infant, junior and primary schools. Rather than list from memory, use Surrey's school map and the Department for Education's Get Information About Schools to find schools by postcode (GU9, GU10). Each school's website sets out whether it is community, voluntary controlled or aided, and its own admissions criteria where it is its own admissions authority.
What if I am moving into the area or my child needs a place mid-year?
Surrey's in-year admissions route is for applications outside the normal rounds; the council asks you to check whether you can apply for an in-year admission first. Appeals are explained on the admissions page, which links to a school appeal form and guide.

A note on council changes
Waverley's website says new websites for East and West Surrey councils are being developed ahead of an April 2027 launch. Surrey County Council web pages may change as a result, so check the deadline again on the council site before applying.
